Sunday, June 5, 2016 – Fresno, CA –PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports continued their podium streak on the streets of Detroit with a third place finish at Round 5 of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship on Belle Isle.

The Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix was only the second street race that Robert Alon has ever competed on, and for the second race in a row, he qualified the #52 PC machine on pole after scoring a pole position at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in May.

“I’m really happy with the run we’ve had at the Detroit Grand Prix. I was able to grab the pole by a few tenths on Friday which really made me happy since this is my first time running this course,” said Alon.

“We had a really clean race start. The car was excellent, and I was able to get a gap early on to (James) French. Throughout my stint, I held that gap to French and when the time came to pit, we got a really quick pit stop done and Tom was able to come out in P1.”

Driver Tom Kimber-Smith navigated through several yellow flag periods with lots of traffic, but was happy to bring the car home in one piece and finish on the podium after being caught up in someone else’s wreck at the 2015 Detroit Grand Prix.

“Overall, I’m slightly disappointed in my performance. Robert drove really well and every weekend he’s just getting quicker and quicker, so looking forward, I’m really excited for the remainder of the season, ” explained Kimber-Smith.

“We bagged some points, which is a lot better than last year, because we left here in a bad situation. The car is one piece, which is a big thing for me at the moment. This is only my second time driving this circuit. I’m new to street courses because we really don’t have those in Europe, so it’s very tricky to get everything right every lap, but I’m happy to come away from the weekend with another podium and more points towards the championship. There’s still a long way to go in the season, and I’m very much looking forward to Watkins Glen. We had a great test there last week and I think we should have a good weekend there in July.”

The PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports team now sits in second place in the points championship, but only three points behind Starworks Motorsports. Next up the team will kick off the busy summer season at Watkins Glen for the Sahlen’s 6 Hours at the Glen. Jose Gutierrez will rejoin the team for the third endurance race of the season where they hope to continue their podium streak.
