September 10, 2020 - Braselton, Georgia - PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports won the TireRack.com Grand Prix at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta with their LMP2 entry as part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA LMP2 driven by Patrick Kelly, Simon Trummer and rookie Scott Huffaker won their second race of the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season around the 2.54-mile circuit over the weekend.
The 6-hour race began with an early caution as the #18 Era Motorsport ORECA LMP2 sustained significant damage forcing the team into pit lane for repairs. Pole sitter Kelly cleanly navigated the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA LMP2 through the multi-car crash and drove several seamless laps before handing the wheel over to Trummer. The 31-year-old Switzerland native kept up the momentum with a dominant drive helping PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports secure their second win of the season.
Huffaker started out right on pace expertly navigating the famous esses while keeping the #52 out of trouble. In his series debut, the 20-year-old American driver secured his first LMP2 class win in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07-Gibson LMP2 will be back at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for the 23rd annual Motul Petit Le Mans. The green flag drops for the 10-hour battle on Saturday, October 17. For more information, click here.
Simon Trummer - Driver of the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07-Gibson LMP2
“Beginning on Friday, it was a good weekend. Scott Huffaker is new to the team so we gave a lot of practice time to him first. He did a super job and was on pace right away with no mistakes. Patrick Kelly, as always, was fantastic and when compared to the other bronzes was in his own league. I had three good stints, continuously improved and beat my personal best at Road Atlanta. The TireRack.com Grand Prix was good practice for Motul Petit Le Mans in a few weeks.”

“A win is a win and it feels great! But, winning with a team and co-drivers you consider friends...that's extra special!”
Scott Huffaker - Driver of the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07-Gibson LMP2
“The weekend couldn't have gone any better for my first P2 race. I still have some things to learn but I'm looking forward to the next event with the team.”
Bobby Oergel - Team Principal
“I am more than happy with the job everyone did for this 6-hour event. Patrick Kelly, Scott Huffaker and Simon Trummer did exactly what they were asked to do from the first session onward and the crew was once again flawless in their pre-event prep and actions throughout the weekend. The pace amongst all three drivers was exceptional and only used when needed, sadly our competitors were victims of a driver ahead of our category making poor decisions.”
