Wednesday, September 20, 2017 – Fresno, CA –The PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports team and drivers are ready to get back on track for the penultimate round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It’s been just over a month since the last LMP2 contest at Road America and drivers José Gutierrez and Olivier Pla are ready to score their first victory for PR1.
“Laguna Seca is such an awesome track. There are a lot of great corners at this track, but the cork screw is definitely a favorite of mine,” said Gutierrez.
“I have raced at Laguna Seca before, and I think the track will suit our Ligier very well. I’m looking forward to the first practice on Friday and think we will be fast right out of the box. I’m confident that we will have a good result here and have great faith in our team to be able to have a good finish at Laguna and keep pushing towards Petit Le Mans.”
There are few tracks that Frenchman Olivier Pla has not visited on the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship schedule, but this round will mark Pla’s first appearance at the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
“It will be the first time for me at Laguna Seca, so I just cannot wait to race at this place,” stated Pla.
“I have heard a lot about the cork screw and how fast turn nine is, so I’m really looking forward to the challenge of racing at a new track. I will have to learn the track quickly and make sure the car balance is okay, but I think this place should be very good for our car.”
“I’m looking forward to turning my first laps at Laguna Seca on Friday, and hope we can bring home a podium finish for PR1.”
In 2016, PR1 Motorsports scored their first victory of the season in the PC Class at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the closest track to their shop in Fresno, CA. The team and drivers are hoping for a similar result in the P2 category when the checkered flag flies on Sunday.
PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports returns to the track this weekend for the America’s Tire 250 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. On track action begins Friday, September 22 with race coverage beginning at 2:00 PM PT on Sunday, September 24.
