Wednesday, March 15, 2017 – Fresno, CA—After completing a productive two-day test at Sebring International Raceway three weeks ago, the PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports team and drivers are headed back to the 3.74-mile Florida circuit to battle for an overall win at the 65th running of the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring.
With no reports of rain in the forecast for the weekend, unlike the last year’s race, which was red flagged due to torrential downpours and lightening, drivers Mike Guasch, José Gutierrez and Tom Kimber-Smith are ready to get back behind the wheel of the #52 Ligier for a dry 12 Hours of Sebring.
“I’m looking forward to being back at Sebring and competing for the overall win. We finished second in the PC class at Sebring last year, so I really hope we’re able to have a clean race and another podium finish this weekend,” said Gutierrez.
“At the test a few weeks ago we tried a lot of different down-force packages, put in a new engine and worked through a lot of small issues we were having at Daytona, so I feel confident that we will have a great car for the race. Sebring is a very physically demanding track on the car and driver, but I’m set for the challenge and am looking forward to the race on Saturday.”
Co-driver Kimber-Smith stated, “We’re all looking forward to the 12 Hour. It’s been a race that’s been very good to us over the last couple of seasons.”
“The PR1 guys have been working tirelessly since the Rolex 24, so I think the issues we were having there have been resolved, and we should hopefully have a bit smoother race on Saturday. We had a top ten finish at Daytona, so now I think it’s time to aim a bit higher and focus on staying out of trouble and out of the garage for the full 12 Hours.”
Tequila Patron Endurance Cup driver Guasch is ready to take on the second round of the Endurance Cup Championship and hopes the team will be able to move ahead in the standings after Saturday’s race.
“We’ve had a lot of little things to work through with the new car, but I think we knocked out a lot of those problems at the test,” explained Guasch.
“We should be in a good position on Thursday for the start of the first practice, and hopefully we can continue to build and get faster throughout the weekend. Right now we’re fifth in the drivers championship for the TPNAECC, so our goal is to stay out of trouble, run a clean race, finish as close to the top as we can and chip away a few places towards the championship. We’ve got the team and drivers to do it, now we just have to make it happen when the green flag flies on Saturday.”
