Tuesday, April 12, 2016 – Fresno, CA – It’s been three years since PC cars have turned laps at the Long Beach Grand Prix, making their return to the 1.968-mile street circuit later this week even more exciting as they take the streets for the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach on Saturday, April 16. Although the PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports team has visited the circuit various times before the race was removed from the PC schedule in 2014, for drivers Robert Alon and Tom Kimber-Smith, this visit will mark their debut at the Southern California circuit. “I’m very excited to go to the Long Beach Grand Prix. This will be my very first time competing at a street course,” said Alon, 25, of Encino, CA. “Growing up watching the Monaco Grand Prix, it’s always been a dream of mine to compete at a street race, and the Long Beach Grand Prix is our version of Monaco here in the states, so to be able to go there with PR1 is a dream come true.” The concrete barriers of the Long Beach street course will present an entirely new set of challenges to WeatherTech SportsCar Championship rookie Robert Alon, but he’s more than ready to face those challenges and race at his home track. “It’s going to be a big challenge as there has been a lot of run off room at the last two races that we’ve had at Daytona and Sebring, but at Long Beach there’s going to be no room for error at all. I’m excited to get close to some walls, but also know that it will be a big challenge for me, but one that I’m definitely looking forward to. This will also be the closest race to home for me, so it will be great to have so many family and friends there to support us and hopefully cheer us on to another podium finish.” Kimber-Smith will also make his first appearance at the Long Beach Grand Prix. Although he has previous street race experience, it is rare to find a circuit that he has not competed on in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, so he’s more than ready to turn his first laps there on Friday. “I’ve actually never been to Long Beach, so I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve heard lots of crazy stories from there, so I’m excited for the opportunity to race there this year with PR1 and Robert [Alon],” stated Kimber-Smith, 31, of Wokingham, England. “It’s going to be a tough street course and there is absolutely no room to make mistakes, so we’re going to have to be spot on from the start. The race is only an hour and forty minutes, which means we will have to make the most of the time we have during practice and qualifying to get the car optimized for this circuit. It will be a big change from Sebring to the streets of Long Beach, but I know the PR1 guys will have us ready to race on Saturday. I’m definitely looking forward to the green flag Saturday afternoon and hope we can find ourselves on the podium at the end of the weekend.” You can watch the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach LIVE and in it’s entirety during the following broadcast times: 7:00 PM EST – 4/16/16 – Fox Sports 2 REPLAY - 11:00 PM EST – 4/16/16 – Fox Sports 1 REPLAY - 12:30 PM EST - 4/17/16 - Fox Sports 1 And don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and Instagram and like us on Facebook – @PR1Motorsports – to stay up to date with all of the team and drivers’ racing news!
