May 28, 2015 – Detroit, MI -- The 2015 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship enters round four for the PC category this weekend at the 13-turn, 2.35-mile course situated on the streets of Detroit and Belle Isle. The Chevrolet Sports Car Classic Presented by Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers will be a 100-minute race on a temporary street circuit and PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports will be returning once again with drivers Michael Guasch and Tom Kimber-Smith following their impressive showing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. During the event, Guasch nearly secured the PC class top qualifying position, only missing the pole by a mere four thousandths of a second while Kimber-Smith ran at the front during every practice session, leading the final warm-up before the race. Unfortunately, fuel pick-up issues ruined the team’s race, forcing the Daytona and Sebring winners to finish seventh in class.
Looking for a fresh start on an all-new track for the team, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports has shifted their attention away from their natural terrain road course program to a tight and twisty street course focus.
BOBBY OERGEL – Team Owner – PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports
“They may look similar, natural terrain road courses and street circuits, but they often require completely different approaches. Year-to-year, street circuits change slightly as the racing surface is subject to a full year of abuse from the general public. This can severely affect surface conditions, causing varying levels of grip and bumpy surfaces. Add in the hard and narrow concrete walls, decreased sight lines, and tight corners and you are presented with a very unique challenge. Even though Detroit will be new to the team, we’re not that concerned. It’ll be new to all of the PC teams, so this is the perfect venue for us to restart our sprint-race program this year.”
MICHAEL GUASCH – Driver #52 Cuttwood E-Liquid
“I’m looking forward to Detroit, the longer straights, the tighter turns, it all looks great to me. I’ve had a lot of success on the streets, won my class in open-wheel at Circuit Trois-Rivières and was on the podium twice in two events at Long Beach. The fast, rough, and tight street circuits demand absolute concentration and there’s no margin for error. That’s just the type of track that I love.
“The 100-minute format will intensify the situation and I think we’ll see a lot of teams push themselves beyond their limits. That’s never been an issue for us, we’ve always striven to push as hard as we can within the confines of the car’s abilities and that’s what we’ll be doing this weekend. If we can keep it clean and fast, I think we have an excellent shot at getting back to the podium in Motor City.”
